Topics In Molecular And Cellular Biology (BIO-0243)

Fall 2023 · BIO 0243 · Tufts University · 3 credits · Undergraduate

Designed for 2nd -year Biology PhD students preparing for their qualifying exam in genetics, molecular, cell or developmental biology. Focus is on reading and criticism of primary literature. Students will read and present papers from the current literature. Novel experimental techniques used to answer central questions will be emphasized. Students will be expected to read independently for background needed and to generate annotated bibliographies related to class topics. Topics chosen from the following: DNA repair, DNA replication, regulation of gene transcription, cellular mechanisms of maintaining genome stability, protein structure, protein function and regulation, cell biology of signaling pathways, cell-cell communication and biophysical controls of developmental morphology. Recommendations: A previous course in cell and molecular biology, such as BIO 105 or equivalent, one year of graduate-level study, and permission of instructor.
