This course further explores the professional roles of physical therapists, demonstrating the APTA core values of accountability, compassion/caring, altruism, and self-reflection. The course is tailored specifically to the work of a physical therapist, where interprofessional interactions with people in a culturally competent manner, including patients, support personnel, supervisors, third-party payers, and other medical professionals, is a large part of their responsibilities. This course is developed in three topic sections to ensure students have the foundations for cultivating a therapeutic partnership with patients within a variety of healthcare settings: 1) foundations of engaged professionalism, 2) relationship skills in health communication, and 3) intervention-based communication approaches.
