Microscale fluid mechanics and mass transport. Microfluidic device design, fabrication, and experimental characterization. Hydraulic circuit analysis, electrokinetic flow, capillary effects, and multiphase flow. Brownian motion, diffusion, and dispersion. Applications including mixing and separations, cell sorting and chemotaxis, droplets and emulsions, and pumps and valves. Laboratory component including micro particle image velocimetry. Meets with ME 217. In no case may a student receive credit for both ME 155 and ME 217. Prerequisites: ME 51 or ME 150 or graduate standing
