Cognitive Science of Language (PSY-0251)

A graduate-level seminar course that reviews the cognitive principles and architecture of adult language processing. Multiple aspects of language processing are examined from the perspective of both cognitive and neural function. Reading and analysis of papers using multiple cognitive science techniques to probe the mechanisms of language processing, ranging from behavioral and eye tracking methods, to neural methods and computational modeling. Students should have some background in the study of linguistics or psycholinguistics (pre-requisites: completion of either the Language Core of the Cognitive Science Program at Tufts, a relevant undergraduate course in linguistics or psycholinguistics, or permission of the instructor). Serves as an elective for the Psychology Graduate Program as well as the interdisciplinary Cognitive Science Graduate Program.
