Mid-level course in anthropological theory: examines technologies made to entice, lure, and persuade, in a social and cultural context. Compares the design, use, and reception of techniques ranging from animal trapping to user experience design. Topics may include hunting, machine gambling, scams, advertising, magic, art, hospitality, persuasive design, behavioral addiction, and algorithmic recommender systems. Recommendations: One prior course in cultural anthropology.
