Biomedical Concepts at the Tissue, Organ and Systems Scales I (BME-0044)
Spring 2024 · BME 0044 · Tufts University · 5 credits · Undergraduate
Biotransport phenomena as applied to cell membranes, cell sheets and the skin; feedback loops and controllers as applied to physiological homeostasis and control of cellular biochemical pathways; thermodynamics of chemical reactions and reaction kinetics as applied to enzymes; and sensor design & optimization as applied to skin sensors and the central nervous system. Applications to physiological homeostasis, modes of cell and tissue communication, the integumentary system, the immune system and the central nervous system. Instruction using a mix of didactic lectures, case studies, experimental/computational labs and clinical/industrial presentations/visits. Prerequisites: BME 33 or BIO 13
