Infectious Disease Epidemiology (CMPH-0311)

Spring 2024 · CMPH 0311 · Tufts University · 1.5 credits · Undergraduate

The objective of this course is to acquaint students in the underlying biomedical sciences, social, environmental, and clinical aspects of infectious diseases epidemiology. Our collective experiences with COVID-19 will provide one of the lenses with which to focus our attention. Students will, at the end of this course, be equipped to understand – and perhaps conduct! - the common, routinely used, yet powerful epidemiological analyses used day in and day out by public health professionals during outbreak emergencies. An early goal will be to differentiate and highlight the differences that characterize infectious diseases epidemiology from epidemiological disciplines, as well as to delineate similarities. It will accomplish this through reviews of seminal historical materials; current knowledge; and critical assessments of the gaps in our knowledge of infectious diseases transmission.
