Social Justice, Advocacy, and Music (CVS-0175)

The role of music in movements for social change and in models of advocacy in scholarship, research, educational programming, and communities. Case studies include the role of music in the Civil Rights movement and LGBTQ+ advocacy in the US, and in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. Using music as a tool for activism, and the role of music in developing successful social justice initiatives. No prerequisite.
