Tectonic plate motions, their underlying drivers, and impact on the Earth system. Evidence for continental drift and seafloor spreading. Dynamics of continental rifts, mid-ocean ridges, subduction zones, transform faults, and continental collisions. Impact of plate tectonics on lithosphere evolution, natural hazards, climate, and biodiversity. Prerequisites: ECS 22 or instructor permission.
