Data communications concepts. Communications networking techniques: switching and broadcast networks, access protocols, local networks. Design issues, overview of current products. Computer communications architecture: hardware/software issues, protocols and architecture, layered approach and hierarchical approach. Prerequisite: senior or graduate electrical engineering degree candidate, or consent. Recommendations: Senior or graduate electrical engineering degree candidate, or permission of instructor.
