Artist’s Books: The Portrait (GRA-0184)

An introduction to the basics of publication design through structured assignments create and design an artist’s book. Discuss image/text relationships, typography, sequencing, strategies on how to use found text, personal text, along with drawn and photographic images. The second part of the course will focus on the artist’s books as portraits, including family albums, works that explore representations of the body and gender identity. Class discussion includes contemporary artist’s books, print-on-demand technology and vast possibilities of self-publishing and distribution. No prerequisites.
