Intro to Sound:ElectronicMusic (MDIA-0062)

Introductory studio course explores Sound from the perspective of electronic music. Learn to create structured sound artworks. Become proficient in tools used in contemporary audio production, including digital audio workstations (Ableton Live), software samplers, synthesizers (FM, wavetable, analog), drum machines, microphones. Demonstrations of techniques of sound design, composition, performance; listening sessions; skill-based assignments leading to larger projects developing individualistic approaches. Special focus on production and listening as a communal practice. No prior musical experience required; students won't be expected to make "traditional" music in their sonic explorations. No experience necessary. Open to all levels. Non-SMFA students and MAT Art Education students will receive a letter grade.
