Experimental Animation (MDIA-0139)

A creative laboratory to experiment with unusual techniques and hybrid approaches to animation. Explore digital and experimental animation techniques: hand-drawn animation, stop-motion, puppets, Adobe Creative Cloud, sound. Hand-drawn and foot-drawn animation, infinite loop cycles, strata-cut animation, zoetropes and other pre-cinema toys, handmade animation devices, visual music experiments, exquisite corpse animations, “automatic” collaged animations, animations of dreams. Weekly experiments, screenings, discussions, crits, guest artist, final experimental project. Use of the Advanced Production Lab will be encouraged, including laser cut paper and 3D printing. Final projects explore various installation and projection ideas. Non-SMFA students and MAT Art Education students will receive a letter grade.
