Color as Content (MTL-0183)

Spring 2024 · MTL 0183 · Tufts University · 4 credits · Undergraduate

Designed for beginning as well as advanced students as an in-depth exploration of the use of color within jewelry and metal working. Demonstrations will cover traditional surface treatments such as patinas and enameling and the potential to make and incorporate colorful, non-metal objects and materials. Basic metalworking techniques to accompany those methods will be instructed such as: sawing and piercing, cold connecting, and basic soldering. Upon completing this course, students will be able to create finished pieces of jewelry and objects that exhibit an understanding of color’s expressive and symbolic qualities.
