Seminar on religious change in South Asia from the rise of British colonial rule to the partition of British India. Special emphasis on 19th-century Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh movements, the colonial construction of religious categories, competing modes of reformist and customary religion, and debates over the meaning of history, community, and gender.
