Seminar: Comparative Social Inequality (SOC-0182)

Examines the existing research about the production and reproduction of social inequality in a variety of contexts. Roles of macro-level processes (e.g. political economy and the welfare state) and meso-level (e.g. economic organizations) in explaining social inequality in comparative perspective. Manifestations of social inequality, including employment discrimination on the basis of race, gender, parental status, immigrant status/nativity, and employment histories; the links between globalization and inequality; the role of social origins; and the role of neighborhood contexts in limiting economic opportunities. Prerequisites: Junior or senior standing.
