Health and Illness Through Literature in Spanish (SPN-0162)

Explores narrative and film in Spanish as tools to engage critically with health, illness, and care. Draws on the interdisciplinary fields of Health Humanities and Narrative Medicine. Examines representation of stigmatized illnesses such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, infectious diseases, and mental health to understand the influence of cultural, social, political, and economic contexts on health and wellbeing. Analysis of fiction, poetry, film, podcasts, visual representations, and graphic novels to develop critical thinking, empathetic listening, and close reading skills. Conducted in Spanish. Recommended: Two courses above SPN 22 or instructor permission.
