Afro-Haitian Dance: From Roots to Stage (DNC-0043)

The choreographic works of folkloric artists and how traditional performances connect to modern dance pioneer, Katherine Dunham, and contemporary works. Learn, develop, and perform choreography for several dance rhythms and forms including Yanvalou, Nago, and Zepal. Viewings, readings, and written assignments. Rehearsals and performances of dance works learned and developed in the course. No previous dance experience required. Recommended: Previous introductory study of an African-based dance form recommended but not required.
