This course introduces pharmacologic principles, the study of prescription and/or over-the-counter medications use in the management of a variety of patient conditions encountered during physical therapy management, and their impact on patient management across the lifespan. This includes an understanding of the pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamic properties of common drug classifications. The impact of medications on patient presentation, timing of rehabilitation sessions, and physical therapy outcomes are emphasized. Included in this course will be an overview of the impact of pharmaceutical interventions on physical therapy patient management across the lifespan and movement systems (cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and integumentary systems).
