Developments in evolutionary science and the visual arts in relation to fiction, non-fiction, drama, and poetry that depend upon and resist the authority of the Victorian Empire. Readings in Darwin's The Origin of Species, Tennyson, LeFanu, Stevenson, Ruskin, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Christina Rossetti, Hopkins, Arnold, Pater, Wilde, Hardy, Kipling, Barrie, and others; attention to nineteenth-century British painting and music. Recommendations: ENG 1, 2 REQUIRED or Fulfillment of College Writing Requirement. Recommended that the student already have taken either ENG 20,21,22, or 23.
