Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos (MATH-0153)

Upper-level course in ordinary differential equations from an applied point of view. Equilibria, limit cycles, and their stability. Saddle-node, pitchfork, transcritical, Hopf, and homoclinic bifurcations. Chaotic dynamics, strange attractors, and fractal dimension. Strong emphasis on examples from the natural sciences. Prerequisite: Math 42 or Math 44, and at least one of the following three: Math 51, Math 70, Math 72.
