The Rashomon Effect (MDIA-0167)

Studio-seminar explores non-standard strategies for creating narratives with moving images and sound, such as: portrait, self-portrait, diary, re-enactment, second-person and unreliable narration. Learn to tell stories with sound and image, using techniques of audio and video editing, found footage, voice over, still image films, desktop films. Map nonlinear chronologies, nested narratives, the Rashomon effect and other unusual audiovisual storytelling modes. Practical group activities, collective listening/screening sessions, seminar discussions, and student presentations. Small weekly assignments leading to a larger final project. No experience is necessary. Open to all levels. Non-SMFA students and MAT Art Education students will receive a letter grade.
