Media Culture Now (SMFA-0182)

An understanding of how mass media functions to enact meaningful social change and how it shapes both our public policy and private lives. Me. Challenge commercial methods of cultural production, create collages and zines about our vernacular culture, question how these forms of cultural production and mass media have come to be a powerful means of expressing culture. Possible topics include women, immigrants, refugees, BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals, war, US military recruiting from gaming industries, presidential elections, and reality TV. Non-SMFA students and MAT Art Education students will receive a letter grade.
