Biophotonic approaches used to characterize biological specimens including standard microscopy (brightfield, phase contrast, fluorescence), depth-resolved microscopy (confocal fluorescence and reflectance, two-photon excited fluorescence and second harmonic generation), near infrared spectroscopy, and photoacoustic imaging.
