Hip Hop: Introduction to Breakin' Culture/Practice (DNC-0030)

Introduction to Breakin’, the original dance of Hip Hop, combining movement and written work. Development of foundational skills in toprock, downrock, and other styles of movement through tools of dance. Exploration of self-expression and community through practice and exchange within street dance pedagogy. History of Hip Hop (globally and locally) and engagement with its social, political, and spiritual dimensions. Includes readings, videos, weekly reflections, discussions, and written assignments. No previous dance experience required.
