Hip Hop II: Study Through the Cypher (DNC-0032)

Exploration of relationship between movement practice and written/spoken word, including lyricism of Hip Hop emcees, poetry, and philosophical readings. “The Cypher” as a space of research and communication. Study of self and society through street dance pedagogy, based on the movement vocabulary and practice of Breakin’. Engagement with local Hip Hop culture and economic history. Includes readings, videos, weekly reflections, discussions, and written assignments. Recommendations: DNC 0030 or previous experience with Breakin’ or other Hip Hop dance forms.
