Doctoral Seminar in Research Approaches and Methods (EC-0237)
Spring 2025 · EC 0237 · Tufts University · 3 credits · Undergraduate
One of the primary challenges for any researcher is taking a promising research question, refining and testing estimation strategy, and shaping the results into a paper (and associated presentation). This is what we will work on in this course. (The preceding companion course covers identifying a strong research question, data and methodology.) The objectives of this course are to provide PhD students with tools to rigorously analyze data and to craft research output (papers and presentations) from the resulting estimates; and to provide constructive feedback on others' work. We will cover current topics in modern applied econometrics such as difference in difference, regression discontinuity, randomized controlled trials, shift-share designs, inference, missing data, and others. This course is the second part of a two-course sequence in the joint Fletcher-Econ PhD program.
