Neuroscience (MBS-0238)

Spring 2025 · MBS 0238 · Tufts University · 1.5 credits · Undergraduate

This course will examine the basic principles of anatomy, physiology, and neurochemistry of the central and peripheral nervous systems. Topics will be covered to help develop an understanding of how neuronal communication underlies human brain function. The course will be taught as a mixture of lecture-based sessions and discussions of scientific journal articles on neurological cases. Lectures supplemented by discussion of clinical case studies will serve as an introduction to understanding of neurological disorders. Radiological images will be integrated where relevant within the course. Specific topics covered will include gross brain and meninges, neuronal microenvironment, synaptic transmission, autonomic nervous system function, spinal reflexes, sensory processing, movement, sleep and wakefulness, hunger, thirst, caloric and body fluid homeostasis, emotion control, maintenance of balance, hearing, visual sensation and pertinent neurological disorders.
