Composite Materials (ME-0116)

Spring 2025 · ME 0116 · Tufts University · 3 credits · Undergraduate

Fundamentals of design, manufacture, and analysis of composite materials. Fiber materials such as glass, kevlar and carbon fibers along with state-of-the-art thermoplastic and thermoset matrix materials. Rules of mixtures (ROM) to calculate transverse isotropic properties in laminae. Classical Lamination Theory (CLT) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to calculate stress and strains in laminates. Case studies in aerospace. Hands-on experiences, such as vacuum bagging to manufacture and test composites. Team project.
