Negotiation and Conflict Resolution (PH-0217)

Spring 2025 · PH 0217 · Tufts University · 1.5 credits · Undergraduate

Negotiation is a strategic means of managing differences or arriving at consensus among two or more willing parties with the goal of arriving at a mutual agreement. This course will begin with separate overviews of negotiation and conflict resolution - in the workplace and beyond. After the introduction, the first 3 sessions will focus on conflict resolution. This includes conflict in the workplace, in school, and within the home and community. Conflict theory will be combined with in-class practice. Sessions 4 through 7 will focus on negotiation skills as a means of both resolving conflict but also conducting business. In all sessions, we’ll address the common themes of effective communication, emotional intelligence, and meticulous preparation. Every session will integrate practice with theory. A final paper will be based upon an understanding of strategies for building strategic skills that can be applied broadly.
