The effects of mechanical stress and strain on musculoskeletal tissues during growth, function, and repair. The impact of loads acting on the musculoskeletal system alone and with orthopedic interventions. Applications of classical mechanics for modeling and solving problems encountered in orthopedic surgery and evaluation of orthopedic implants. Forces and moments acting on human joints; composition and mechanical behavior of orthopedic biomaterials; design and analysis of joint replacement (hip, knee, shoulder, spine, and fracture fixation).
