Culture and history of France (ancient Gaul) from the Iron Age to the end of Antiquity, drawing on textual and archaeological evidence and modern interdisciplinary scholarship. Topics include identity, economy, urbanism, religion, values, and material culture. When taught in Talloires, includes a field trip to a major pre-Roman and Roman archaeological site.
