The Literatures of Justice (CVS-0154)
Fall 2025 · CVS 0154 · Tufts University · 4 credits · Undergraduate
Justice as an ideal, alongside the systems, institutions, and practices that borrow its name. Approaches the US legal system through a multidisciplinary lens that includes historical analysis, sociology, literary arts, and personal narrative. Examines the carceral system through the eyes of scholars and critics, many of whom have experienced incarceration. Centers histories of racial injustice and racial segregation, as well as the many voices that challenge the status quo in the U.S. criminal justice system. Runs as a MyTERN course, including both Medford campus students and formerly-incarcerated students working toward their college degrees. See class notes for information on the application process.
