Fall 2025 · DHP P255 · Tufts University · 3 credits · Undergraduate

Energy affects every dimension of human society ranging from basic living conditions, mobility, and economic prosperity. Energy, primarily derived from fossil fuel sources, has powered industrialization globally since the onset of the industrial revolution, resulting in a substantial rise in economic growth. Nevertheless, energy is at the heart of some of the most intractable environmental problems, national security challenges, and economic-development strategies. Energy is also central to addressing each of these challenges. This survey course explores energy-related challenges and opportunities issues among countries. The policies of major energy consumers and producers are compared. International energy policy topics such as the geopolitics of oil and gas, energy markets, energy access and equity, energy and health, energy technology innovation, and international cooperation and competition are covered in this survey course.
