Foundations In Art Education, Pre-k - 8 (EDS-0175)

In this course students investigate the history and philosophies of Art Education, recent issues of educational reform, and the effects of national and state achievement standards on art programs. They explore child and adolescent development as they study early developmental and psychological approaches to Art Education. More recent developments in the field inspire discussions of student diversity, multiculturalism, visual and critical studies, and aesthetics. Course requirements include weekly readings and class discussions, a research paper, and formulation of a personal philosophy of Art Education. Recommendations: MAT students only unless granted special permission.
