Topics include: ethnic and religious diversity in the Soviet Union and post-Soviet Russia; World War I; the revolutions of 1917 and the Civil War; the ideology of communism and its application in the Soviet Union; the changing status of women; nationalities policy in the Soviet Union; Stalinism; World War II and the Holocaust on Soviet territory; the Cold War; de-Stalinization and the Thaw; the impact of Western culture on Soviet society; Soviet engagement with the Global South after decolonization; Brezhnev and the era of stagnation; Perestroika; the collapse of communism; the "wild 1990s"; Putinism; the Russo-Ukrainian war; contemporary Russian-U.S. relations.
