Jazz In Film: North America, Europe, Asia (MUS-0030)

Analysis of soundtracks, sound design, and the visual representation of jazz culture from 1920 to the present to understand how jazz has been used to reflect, reinforce, or challenge societal norms. The ways jazz has facilitated cross-cultural dialogue, the influence of jazz on global cinema, its evolution alongside the visual and narrative elements of film, and its role in articulating themes of race, colonialism, and diaspora. How jazz in film has both celebrated cultural hybridity and offered critical perspectives on issues of identity, power, and belonging.
