Music and Nature (ENV-0036)

Set against the backdrop of the present-day environmental crisis, an exploration of the relationship between music and the natural world from the 16th century to the present. Topics may include inspiration from landscapes across history, and how their music opens new perspectives on Western society’s shifting relationship to the idea of nature itself. Examination of the art and science of music created by animals, such as birdsong and whale song, and soundscape ecology.
