Advanced course examining philosophical issues raised by artificial intelligence (AI) spanning metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics. Topics may include arguments for and against AI consciousness, challenges for understanding ‘black boxes' in machine learning, roles for AI in scientific discovery, and the ethics of using AI to replace humans in roles like decision making, caregiving, and the creation of art. Prerequisites: Two PHIL courses or instructor permission
