Examination of issues in ethics, political philosophy, and philosophy of social sciences raised by race and racism in the U.S. Topics include affirmative action, the justification and critique of inequality (e.g., "blaming the victim"), rights, equality of opportunity, motives, and responsibility. Recommendations: One course in philosophy, or two courses in the social sciences, or junior standing with permission of instructor.
