An examination of conceptual problems encountered in the scientific study of human behavior and society: the debate between behaviorists and cognitivists; the relation of psychology to sociology, economics, and the physical sciences; and data and theory construction in the social sciences. Readings from contemporary philosophers and social scientists. Recommendations: PHIL 2 and either PHIL 33 or a major in the social sciences.
