Historical and cultural analysis of US capitalism as a set of economic, cultural, and ideological systems. Emphasis on Black Studies and Native Studies approaches to the study of capitalism, race, and colonialism as related structures. How enslavement and racialization made capitalist development possible in the United States (and beyond). The role territorial dispossession and settler colonialism have played in the expansion of capitalist relations in the US. How capitalism shapes the relationships between diverse human and more-than-human beings. Prerequisite: RCD 50 or instructor permission.
