Explore socially engaged art. Non-medium-specific studio course for artists interested in utilizing art for organizing and creating social change. Learn about the history of this field, review artists’ works, explore the exciting overlap between art, organizing, and pedagogical practices influenced by recent sociopolitical and environmental movements. Address recent strategies and examine the shift of socially engaged artists from studio to situation or participatory actions. Non-SMFA students and MAT Art Education students will receive a letter grade.
