Protein Structure and Function (BIO-0191)
Spring 2026 · BIO 0191 · Tufts University · 3 credits · Undergraduate
The intricate relationship between protein structure and biological function. Molecular mechanisms underlying the folding, stability, and function of proteins, including enzymes, receptors, and protein complexes. The dynamic nature of proteins, the effects of disease-causing mutations, and their implications for drug targeting. Evolution of protein structures and functions, highlighting the molecular adaptations that contribute to biological diversity. Integration of theoretical knowledge through lectures with real-world examples through critical analysis of primary literature. Fulfills the group A requirement for the Biology major and the elective requirement for the Biochemistry major. Prerequisites: BIO 152 or CHEM 171, or graduate standing.
