Independent Research in Biology (BIO-0193)

Academic credit for students participating in continued biology research. Students must find their own research positions, either within or outside of Tufts, and consult with potential faculty supervisors prior to enrollment. Students should demonstrate autonomy in literature reading, experimental design, and data collection/analysis. Undergraduates should have prior research in a related project and written science communication experience equivalent to Bio 93; graduate students without prior research experience should be familiar with literature in the field prior to enrollment. At least 225 hours (roughly 15 hours/week per week in the academic semester) of research involvement and participation in research group meetings, culminating in a research paper and presentation. Confirmation of project eligibility and consent of supervising research mentor required at the start of the term. Prerequisites: Sophomore standing or higher and BIO 93 or BIO 193, or graduate standing.
