Introduction to Digital Media (DIG-0005)

Explore creating art with computers: digital video, 3D, still images, and audio. Introductory course focused on core concepts and practical techniques. Understand file formats, binary representations, computer hardware, compositing modes, alpha channels, video compression, data rate, digital audio techniques, AI image generation, and principles of creative coding. Learn the skills to prevent “computer problems”, by understanding the under-the-hood workings of hardware and software. Learn the software of today, and become well-prepared for the hardware and software of tomorrow. Small weekly assignments leading to a larger final project. No experience is necessary. Open to all levels. Non-SMFA students will receive a letter grade.
