British & Irish Lit, Romantic to Post-Colonial (ENG-0022)

Survey of British and Irish poetry, fiction, nonfiction prose, and drama from the Romantic era of social and political revolution in the late 18th century to Post-Colonial modernity in the 20th century. Aesthetic experiment and formal innovation in a diverse selection of works in the context of persistent themes, emerging cultural trends, and challenges to the status quo. Evolving ideas about the function of art in society and in response to historical transformation.
