Critical Evaluation of the Clinical Literature (MBS-0228)

Spring 2026 · MBS 0228 · Tufts University · 1.5 credits · Undergraduate

Modern medicine increasingly relies on sophisticated treatments and evidence-based decision-making. Whether evaluating novel therapeutics or identifying risk factors for disease prevention, providers and policy makers must be able to critically assess published evidence. This course introduces students to the principles of epidemiology, biostatistics, and research design through guided discussions of current biomedical literature. Students will develop skills in interpreting data, evaluating study design, and understanding the broader context of research findings. Students in this course will become familiar with evaluating the strengths and limitations of published studies by reviewing and discussing selected publications. In addition, they will conduct independent reviews of selected papers that will be evaluated as part of their course grade.
