Immunotherapy of Cancer and Autoimmune Disease (MBS-0231)
Spring 2026 · MBS 0231 · Tufts University · 1.5 credits · Undergraduate
In the last few years we have seen a revolution in the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases - we cannot turn on the television or open a magazine or newspaper without seeing an ad for some new medication to treat a specific cancer or autoimmune disease. The reasons for this revolution in clinical treatment are clear - advances in “immunotherapy”: the manipulation of some component or arm of the immune response to treat disease. What are these advances? The theory that underlies the successful use of immunotherapy is an extension of the basic immunological concepts taught to students in their first year immunology course. This short course will explore this new and exciting clinically relevant area.
