Introduction to Dentistry I: The Profession and Dental Ethics (MBS-0233)

The Introduction to Dentistry I course brings highlights from the year one curriculum for dental students at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. The sessions cover critical components of the dental profession: a history of dentistry, dental ethics, and professionalism. Dental professionals possess extensive technical knowledge and clinical skills and are expected to be ethical leaders who exercise sound professional judgment. The ethics and professionalism portion brings forward principles and codes of conduct that guide a dental professional and promote ethical and professional conduct in the classroom, in dental school clinic, and throughout life as a dental professional. Current issues in dental education and the practice of dentistry will be discussed. Students will engage in exercises and discussions to provoke thought, stimulate interest, provide skills, and instill an ongoing commitment to being an ethical dental professional.
